    Colorado State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Director for Programming of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS). This full-time administrative professional position is responsible for the design and delivery of programming for international students and scholars on the Colorado State University campus and in the community. The position reports to the ISSS Senior Director. The Assistant Director oversees programs serving over 2,500 international students and scholars, facilitates campus and community partnerships such as the Fort Collins International Center volunteer network, and facilitates acculturation, community, and educational outreach. This position requires regular evening and weekend hours related to programming and event coordination.

    Departmental Overview

    The Vice Chancellor for Equity & Inclusion (VCEI), reporting directly to the Chancellor, serves a far-reaching leadership role as the Chancellor's senior executive responsible for providing a holistic and integrated vision on all major equity and inclusion efforts at Berkeley.  The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity & Inclusion supports and is supported by many programs, including the Staff Diversity Initiatives Department.  The Director of the Staff Diversity Initiatives (SDI) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor, and is responsible for engaging staff and management to ensure staff diversity throughout the campus, foster an inclusive work environment with a welcoming climate, and link efforts to the public mission of the university.  SDI initiatives include Staff Training and Development, Staff Organizations, Staff Climate consulting and services. 

    Reporting directly to the SDI Director, the SDI Training Manager supports the expansion of the Multicultural Education Program (MEP) and manages all aspects of MEP and other staff diversity training programs. This work includes training program operations – workshop scheduling, assessment and evaluation; communications – website, publicity and reporting; and facilitating workshops and other learning experiences and events as requested by the campus climate initiative. The SDI Training Manager also consults with campus departments to determine training needs.

    Responsibilities

    Project Management: 

    • Coordinates day-to-day operational aspects of project and scope. Identifies resources needed. Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately. Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Develops training schedules, oversees logics and planning. Tracks the facilitator certification process and the workshop completion certificate program. Assists with project operations and budget management by ensuring project timelines are met; completes timely and accurate invoicing; and monitors spending for project. 

    Training and Consulting: 

    • Respond to requests for custom workshops and requests for collaboration and consulting with other campus units.  Responds to training and consulting requests from outside organizations, and prepares business contracts as part of SDI revenue generation processes. Coordinates the MEP certification process for MEP Facilitators.  Facilitates MEP Workshops, presents. and , and the SDI segment of the New Employee Orientation, and delivers other SDI training as required.  Designs and conducts more complex training programs to address issues of diverse scope that are aligned with campus strategies. Coordinates, and delivers trainings/workshops to existing groups, departments, organizations, and teams upon referral, request, or mandate. Consults with the Director on the design of custom workshops. Applies professional training and development skills to resolve and address a wide range of training issues and needs assessments. Exercises judgment and identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change to determine appropriate actions.

    Data assessment and evaluation: 

    • Gathers and analyzes training resource data, prioritizes work assignments, and develops training program recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. Systematically evaluates effectiveness of trainings/workshops, materials, etc., and provides input on program revisions as needed. Monitors training results through participant progress, and develops and maintains records of training attendance to determine program effectiveness. 

    Research: 

    • Remains on the forefront of emerging theories and best practices as they relate to the field of multicultural education through journals and publications, online resources, communication with colleagues locally and nationally, and professional associations. May consult with curriculum developers to determine methods for delivery of course content and effective use of technology.

    Event Support: 

    • Provide support for SDI and campus climate initiatives events, as needed.

    Required Qualifications

    Knowledge and Skills: 

    • Proven skills in project management and implementation.

    • Proven skills in delivering training programs.

    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in diversity and multicultural training methods and trends.

    • Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems and presentation software, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and survey tools, e.g., Survey Monkey, Google Forms and Survey Gizmo.

    • Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment and ability to synthesize and present assessment data.

    • Strong analytical skills to understand how campus climate needs can be addressed through the design and delivery of diversity training and education programs.

    • Proven ability to exercise a high level of good judgment, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and when required.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with diverse levels and groups, including students, staff, faculty, and administrators. 

    • Excellent ability to complete work in a fast-paced environment, meeting multiple and competing deadlines and priorities. 

    • Knowledge of, and experience in, the organizational environment of higher education and large research universities to understand client priorities, issues, motivations and constraints.

    • Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of issues and policies pertaining to equity and inclusion, educational access and opportunity, and/or workplace diversity.

    • Proven experience in conflict management.

      

    Education/Training:

    • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience with diversity training and education with adults and college students

    • Minimum 5 years of project management experience.

    ISSS, one of three units within the Office of International Programs (OIP), offers extensive services to over 2,000 international students and scholars.  These services include immigration documentation and advising to nonimmigrant visa bearers who are studying, conducting research, teaching, and/or working for Colorado State University.  Services also include permanent residency processing for individuals in positions of permanent employment with the University.  The ISSS unit maintains records, reports to the U.S. Government as required by federal law, and conducts a wide variety of programs related to immigration issues, cultural adjustment, orientation, and other matters pertinent to the population it serves.  This position reports to the Associate Director of International Student and Scholar Services.
