    This position provides immigration related advising and support for more than 500 international students studying in the Intensive English Language Program at Portland State University including both IELP admitted and PSU admitted students. Advising responsibilities include, but are not limited to individual advising on immigration, personal and cultural adjustment matters and provision of immigration information to IELP students through a variety of channels. In addition to advising responsibilities, this position ensures proper reporting through SEVIS, the federally mandated international student tracking system; maintains files and monitors PSU’s required compliance with SEVIS reporting requirements and manages the SEVIS registration process each term, and administers benefits of F-1 student visa status.     Description

    The Georgia State University Office of International Initiatives invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Study Abroad Programs, a 12-month administrative professional position reporting to the Associate Provost for International Initiatives. The Director serves as the university specialist in the area of education abroad, committed to raising awareness and participation.

    Responsibilities include strategic planning, budget management, and supervision of five full-time staff, one intern and five student assistants. This staff will continue to grow as the university strives to achieve its strategic goal of doubling the number of study abroad students by 2016. The Director oversees student advisement and outreach efforts, faculty-led program development and approval, study abroad management policies for all models of study abroad, ongoing faculty program director and high level administrator support, and scholarship administration. The Director prepares annual reports for the university, the Board of Regents and the Institute of International Education, and provides support as needed for the Associate Provost on special projects and initiatives. The Director collaborates with other campus offices to foster, develop and maintain efficient university processes and policies related to the administration of study abroad.     Position Responsibilities Include:

    • Study Abroad Recruitment - develop strategies to continually increase study abroad participation in accordance with University goals; identify areas of opportunity for on-campus collaboration in order to achieve target goals
    • Study Abroad Program Development and Approval - advise and assist faculty with GSU-sponsored study abroad program development, administration and approval; advise faculty and administrators on issues involving education abroad; lead training sessions for new faculty program directors and business managers on efficient practices
    • Study Abroad Management Policies - oversee protocols for study abroad crisis prevention and management; identify weaknesses and possible liability issues and initiate revision on a continual basis; coordinate annual and other meetings as needed; serve as Study Abroad Crisis Coordinator, taking the lead in university crisis response
    • Supervision of Staff - directly supervise Study Abroad Programs staff, including International Programs Manager, Study Abroad Advisors, and Business Manager
    • Data Collection - oversee staff in the development and maintenance of all databases (e.g. Studio Abroad Software, Annual Study Abroad Fact Book, GSU Program Databases, etc.)
    • Budget Responsibilities - oversee the OII budget allotted to Study Abroad Programs; oversee the budget of the International Education Fee (IEF) Study Abroad Scholarship Program
    • Student Advisement and Outreach - oversee staff in their duties of student advisement and outreach
    • Scholarship Administration - oversee staff in their duties of scholarship administration
    • Reporting - prepare annual and special reports as needed for the Associate Provost, Provost, Board of Regents/USG, and IIE (Open Doors); coordinate the development of office and promotional materials; oversee timely and accurate Study Abroad Programs website maintenance
    • University Procedures - initiate and coordinate the implementation of new university procedures and policies to accommodate and support study abroad; coordinate the ongoing development of procedures and criteria for the administration of the International Education Fee Study Abroad Scholarship Program; work closely with the Enrollment Management Group (EMG) and attend meetings on behalf of the Associate Provost
    • External Liaison Duties - serve as a member of the System Study Abroad Committee and as a liaison with other education abroad offices in the USG; share information and training with colleagues through correspondence, collaboration and presentations at state, regional and national conferences (e.g. Georgia Association of International Educators (GAIE), NAFSA Association of International Educators regional and national, and Forum on Education Abroad, among others)
    • Internal Collaboration - collaborate with other offices to increase visibility of study abroad, promote international educational exchange, and identify opportunities for growth
    • Other duties as assigned by Associate Provost
    Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree and six years of related supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and related experience. Master's preferred.

    The Senior Director of Professional Learning Services provides the strategic staff leadership for professional learning programs and services related to the international education field.  The Senior Director provides vision and direction for the association by working within NAFSA’s strategic plan scanning trends in the field of professional learning; leading the development of product offerings; analyzing registration, evaluation, and budget data to achieve quality and financial goals; and managing the budget.  The Senior Director will bring an entrepreneurial leadership to the department

    The current portfolio of Professional Learning Services programs includes face-to-face cohort based programs (Academy for International Education, the Management Development Program, and a Workshop series) and online learning (primarily Webinars and E-learning courses). The Senior Director supervises four Associate Directors, each responsible for managing a portfolio of programs and projects with targeted goals.

    The Senior Director works with the volunteer leadership of the Training Coordination Subcommittee (TCS) to ensure productive communication regarding staff work and input from SMEs and volunteer leader groups. Maintenance of a productive relationship with volunteer groups (TCS, Academy and MDP chair streams and coaches/trainers, Trainer Corps chair and trainers, Workshop Deans and Dean Mentor, and the Annual Conference Committee workshop coordinator) is a key expectation of job performance for the Senior Director and the PLS staff.
