Zooming in on Intercultural Interactions: Theory and Practice of the TOPOI Model
Your Presenter: Arjan Verdooren
Wednesday, January 14, 2026 @ 11:30 AM EDT
The TOPOI model is an interaction-focused approach to intercultural communication grounded in a dynamic view of culture and identity and the principle that cultures don’t meet—people do. TOPOI identifies five areas where misunderstanding or tension may arise:Tongue (verbal and non-verbal language), Order (views and logic), Persons (identity and relationships), Organization (societal and organizational context), and Intentions (motives and needs). In this webinar, we will explore the TOPOI philosophy, apply it as a lens to real case scenarios, and introduce TOPOI GPT, our new AI tool powered by the TOPOI model.
