Releasing and Renewing: An Intercultural Listening Circle to Close 2025 and Reset for the Year Ahead

As we close a year marked by complexity, bursts of positive energy and action, followed by fatigue and deep uncertainty, both locally and globally, please join fellow SIETARians on Wednesday, December 31 from 11am-12pm EST to gather in a listening circle, offering a grounded and intentional space to pause together. This session will provide an opportunity for collective grieving of what has been lost or transformed, while also celebrating and honoring the resilience and determination that continue to drive our work of fostering awareness and building bridges across cultural differences. Through guided listening and simple mindfulness practices, we will gently shake off what no longer serves us—assumptions, heaviness, and unspoken tensions—to create space and set intentions for renewed clarity, connection, and purpose in 2026. Together, we will end this year with members of our global intercultural community to remind us that our work is not only still relevant, but more essential than ever.

Facilitators:  Sue Shinomiya and Julia Gaspar-Bates

Zooming in on Intercultural Interactions: Theory and Practice of the TOPOI Model

    Your Presenter: Arjan Verdooren

    Wednesday, January 14, 2026 @ 11:30 AM EDT

The TOPOI model is an interaction-focused approach to intercultural communication grounded in a dynamic view of culture and identity and the principle that cultures don’t meet—people do. TOPOI identifies five areas where misunderstanding or tension may arise:
Tongue (verbal and non-verbal language), Order (views and logic), Persons (identity and relationships), Organization (societal and organizational context), and Intentions (motives and needs). In this webinar, we will explore the TOPOI philosophy, apply it as a lens to real case scenarios, and introduce TOPOI GPT, our new AI tool powered by the TOPOI model.
