Portland Walking Tour


For Registrants of the SIETAR USA Conference only: Join us for a one-time-only calming and enriching walking tour of downtown Portland, Oregon, with our local host and guide, Raynette Yoshida. The tour will focus on the local history and culture of the area surrounding the Embassy Suites Downtown,   with a special emphasis on our Asia Pacific and Indigenous heritage. Cost: $62 ($42 without tea set at Lan Su Chinese Garden)

Itinerary for Wednesday morning, November 12, 2025:

  • 9:30 Meet at Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Downtown, Orientation to Portland’s history from an international connections perspective, focus on the Pacific and Asia (APAC)
  • 10:00: Arrive at the Japan American Museum – Oregon’s Nikkei: An American Story of Resilience and WWII era Concentration Camps. + Portraits from the Borderland, photographer Frank Sakae Matsura, indigenous regalia photos from the early 1900s
  • 10:45: Visit to the Lan Su Chinese Garden – Chrysanthemum Festival mum floral art installations, a 30-minute garden highlight tour followed by a 30-minute gaiwan gon fu tea set service at our Yun Shui Teahouse (surcharge applies)
  • 11:50 Visit to the Portland Chinatown Museum, Special exhibit: Inner Village: Stories of Porland Asian Woman Immigrants + Beyond the Gates: A Tale of Portland’s Historic Chinatowns
  • 12:30 Return to Embassy Suites lobby, brief reflections

Fees (we will pay at each stop, unless reservations are required, such as at the Lan Su Garden)

  • Japan America Museum of Oregon: $8 / $6 senior / $5 Student
  • Portland Chinatown Museum: $8 / $6 senior / $5 Student
  • Lan Su Garden: $16 / $15 Students & Seniors (5 and under free)

Note: Lan Su Garden tea + tour package is usually $36/pp; which includes the garden tour and the tea service

Tour Costs: There’s a range depending on age and options (see above). The total for the tour for one adult + donation will be $42 or $62. (Entry fees for adults: approximately $32 , + additional $20 for Tea service at the Lan Su Chinese Garden, and optional $10 donation).
