Mentorship Program

SIETAR USA's Mentoring Program, offered in collaboration with Real Mentors Network, connects members through meaningful one-to-one mentoring relationships focused on career development and professional growth.

SUSA MENTORING DEFINITION

At SIETAR USA, mentoring is defined as an intentional developmental relationship between seasoned intercultural and DEIB professionals and professionals who are early in their career

or in transition. The mentor nurtures and supports the mentee’s personal and professional growth, providing insights, guidance and support as they navigate our industry and association.


Program Expectations

The Relationship

SUSA mentoring relationships are entered into with mutual respect and reciprocity, where both mentor and mentee expect to learn from one another. Both will apply cultural competence in relationship with one another, mentors and mentees will acknowledge one another's identity, validate their backgrounds and accomplishments, and accept and embrace their differences.

Mentor expectations:

  • Professional knowledge and expertise
  • Organizational (SUSA Association) support
  • Access to their professional network and resources
  • Psychosocial support
  • Foster psychological safety
  • Role modeling

Essential skills: cultural competence, empathy, active listening, curiosity, ability to ask probing questions and provide constructive feedback

Mentee expectations:

Mentees are expected to:

  • Engage in the mentoring relationship
  • Be prepared for monthly engagements
  • Be willing and ready to learn
  • Be open minded
  • Ask for and receive constructive feedback

Essential skills: cultural competence, curiosity, communication, active listening

Program Content:

  • Program length: 12 month commitment - February  to January 
  • Monthly meetings with mentor & mentees
  • Mentor and Mentee trainings
  • Mid program check-in with the Mentoring Committee
  • Conference, Webinars, etc – Dates TBD
  • Program evaluation (closing session and survey)

Mentors and mentees must be SIETAR USA members.

The program is powered by the Real Mentors Network's innovative mentoring technology, which streamlines mentor-mentee matching, goal setting, communication, and progress tracking to create a seamless and impactful mentoring experience.
